This subscription service has only been around for a short time now with only 2 boxes, but I absolutely love them. A lot of people are upset because there hasn’t been much makeup, but to be honest I wouldn’t rush to cancel my subscription because I have this feeling that they are going to send out makeup products soon and they are probably going to be amazing. Not every company is perfect when they start, but I’m sure they will listen to us and they will send out makeup. They are partnered with Allure magazine and have an extremely professional appearance. They don’t lie either, all my samples were definitely deluxe size, and they were high-end as well.

I am on my second box with the Beauty Bar Sample Society from Allure. The products you receive are not the ones you get in the department stores. These are full size samples that can be use for at least a month.

The positive is also if you are an avid reader of Allure Magazine, what the Allure Experts gave their opinion of what top notch products. These are products that Allure publishes in their magazine also. I am hoping for better things and lastly I forgot was each box contains a 15% coupon and they send you an email of a coupon also.

I like this subscription box. The presentation is very nice when the box arrives. The samples are almost full size except for maybe two of them. Granted I have only received one box so far. But I’m pretty pleased with what they sent. They sent me some cleanser for acne and I’m pretty sure I never filled out anything saying I had acne problems. I need to go back and look to see if I filled out a beauty profile. I am literally signed up to 20 of these subscription boxes and looking for new ones every day.

I think they did a good job and I won’t be cancelling with them any time soon. :-)

I have some mixed feelings about this box, but because of the experience I had with their customer service, I would recommend them. I got my first box last month. I thought it was pretty good. A sample of Jane Iredale lipstick (about 1/4 of the full size), Boho waves spray for hair, Oscar de la Renta perfume (not crazy about the scent, but the size was huge for a sample–not just a tiny, freebie size, Caudalie eye cream, and a Murad acne cleanser (full size, I think). I did cancel after this first box. I didn’t think the Murad cleanser was useful or appropriate for my age since I am no longer a teenager. When I found out my eye cream was empty (after I cancelled, mind you) I wrote to them to let them know about it. They said they were sending out a replacement sample. I thought that was nice. I couldn’t get Birchbox to send me a replacement sample when I had a problem, and I hadn’t cancelled them (yet–though I did so later on). Anyway, I expected another eye cream sample in a bubble mailer. To my surprise, I got an entirely new box with all of the products in it. That floored me! So when I cancelled Birchbox, I rejoined Sample Society. My next box is set to ship next week, I believe. They haven’t quite gotten the hang of which samples to send out yet, I don’t think. Some are good, while others are not. And while I never, ever want them to go to “individualized boxes” as I feel this only leads to some customers getting treated better than others (seeing what happens with Birchboxes), I do wish they would do a bare minimum of customizing. Say they decided to send out Murad cleansers to everyone. Send acne cleanser to teenagers to people around 23 or so, vitamin c cleansers to people 23 to 35 or so, another cleanser for the next age group, and so on. That would be helpful. Also, unless they do customize a little, sending out a foundation sample is not going to be possible. So I understand customizing is sometimes necessary, there are ways to do it right. I think if Sample Society realized they can’t always target teenagers and older women at the same time, they’d do a lot better. But with such stellar customer service, I’m willing to give them a few more months to work out the bugs and improve!

Love the size of the samples!
I’ve only received one box so far.
I loved that the full size lip liner was not a weird overseas company with mercury warnings (MyGlam). It was retailed at almost twice the cost of the box. There were mostly lotion and face creams. Literally all but one item was a cream of some sort. A little more variety would be great. And being paired up with Allure I wouldn’t expect to receive the same sample that Birchbox sent the month before but hey, growing pains.
Nowhere near a box I would cancel yet.
Fingers crossed for Next month.

Two months into my subscription, I am a fan of Sample Society. The quality of the samples is good, the value is good, and I like the variety of products. The packaging is nice and shipping times are reasonable. This is a good one.

I love sample society because they always have large deluxe samples and usually high end brands as well. You also get a free subscription to Allure magazine!

I am on the fence with this one. Their so called Deluxe size samples this month are pretty small and something I could get free at a department store. On the other hand I usually give a company 2-3 times and if I am still not satisfied I will cancel. So I am hoping next month’s box will be better! I realize they are a newer Subscription Box so I will give them another chance.

I sat on the waiting list forever not-so-patiently waiting for my turn to get this box. I was so excited to to get the invitation and wanted so much to love this box. Unfortunately, I found it to be a bit lack lustr when compared to other boxes.Though the sample of great quality, I receive the same things through other subscription and a lot of the time their samples seem a bit smaller than others. It’s not that there’s anything bad about it, it’s just that there’s nothing that great about it either.

I really love this makeup subscription. Not only do you get large sizes to sample, but their customer service is absolutely AMAZING! You definitely get more than what you pay for and that is exactly what most people are looking for. I would definitely recommend!

I got my first SS box and the sample sizes are great and so are the brands (Stila, borghese, cellceuticals, etc.). The facial cleanser was 2 oz, the mud mask was 0.9 oz and the eyeliner and lip gloss were samples that were half the size of the actual product. This is definately a box that sends you samples that you can use more than just once or twice. It also comes with a $15 off code to use if you want to order any of the products which is wonderful. That way you get back what you paid for the box and get a full sized product, sometimes for just a few bucks more!

I gave Sample Society half a year to wow me and just canceled my subscription because the box just isn’t for me. When you join you rate what types of products you want to receive and unfortunately there’s just not been enough color cosmetics, nail products, or fragrance to make me happy. The focus of the box seems to be skincare products so if you’re looking for skincare treatments and cleansers you will love it! The box itself is so well presented and the $15 off a $50 beautybar purchase (as long as you include a brand that was in the box) is a great deal but I never did find anything I loved enough to make use of it. With brands like Murad, Ahava, Jane Iredale, Diptique, Dermalogica, and Stila you can expect great quality but be sure you want a mix of products every month! I have 7 unused skincare products I tried once or haven’t tried at all from these boxes because my skin is far too sensitive for peels and most cleansers. I would recommend this box to overall beauty product junkies, if you read Allure from cover to cover and like everything you will probably adore Sample Society.

This box was ok. For $15 a month you get no full sized samples, but the samples you do get are large. The themes to the box are not coherent though. One month I got a conditioner sample, but no shampoo sample to go with it. Also, some of the samples are half full or just not that great of quality. I tried it for 4 months and cancelled so I could replace it with a less expensive box that was much better.

Sample Society is my favorite box! I LOVE everything that comes in it each month. I’m so happy it’s not overly make-upy, and I am thrilled by the great brands & variety of products they include. I can’t wait for my next box!!

Check out how I felt Sample Society compared to a bunch of other Subscription Boxes (including Little Black Bag, Birchbox, BeautyFix, Julibox, For The Makers, Pop Sugar Must Have, Glossybox, Julep Maven, Ipsy, Jewelbox, Indie Gift Box, Loose Button Luxe Box, Beauty Army & Knoshbox).

I have subscriptions to about 15 or so monthly subscription boxes. I have a beauty & fashion blog so I review all these products there and my readers love the reviews as well as it helps them decide which one’s would best for them. Also, most of the subscription boxes out there are excellent values, the valuse far exceeds the cost. With all that being said, I love Sample Society! It is one of my favorites. They include high-end luxurious brands and it’s a really good mix of products. I have found a lot of my ” Holy Grail” Items through Sample Society. Customer Service is amazing as well! You do NOT get any oh those useless foil packs with them either, all of the items included are either Full size or true deluxe and travel size. You also get extra’s included in your box sometimes, and these will be products that haven’t even launched yet….So you will be the first to try them, which I think is really cool. My Jan box had two full size items that valued over $40 alone and the others were almost full size. I highly recommend this box to anyone who enjoys a great value, a good mix of high end products and stellar customer service!

I cannot give a fair review on this service because I have tried for three months to receive a box but there is always a “glitch” in their system where I am billed but I show my membership as inactive on their end (despite having re-enrolled per their instructions how many times). The first time, they gave me a $10 credit to use in their store which I was unfamiliar with so when I went in there and saw that everything was more expensive than what I was use to it was a bit offputting but I ordered some makeup wipes which I never received. I had to pay another $10 out of pocket making the total fee $20 yet they could only refund me $5 because the rest of the money was “for shipping and they don’t do refunds on shipping, only a store credit”. I do have to say, their Customer Service is friendly and responds very fast although I have gotten mixed stories a couple of times but overall I think Customer Service is awesome.

Absolutely no disrespect to the other reviewers, however I have given this a shot for a few months (all being a let down). I think their Customer Service is friendly and helpful however on more than one occasion there was a issue with my box. Either being billed twice, not receiving a box, or missing an item altogether. Of course, they resolved that issue ASAP which I think was super great compared to other companies I have tried. As far as the service itself, I feel as if I was bamboozled. They advertise these as deluxe or full size samples but most of what I have received thus far was along the lines of pea sized samples either foil sample size or in a SUPER tiny package (half the size of my pinky finger-literally) with exception to a gooey face mask that was kind of refreshing but felt terrible, and a nice lipgloss which happens to be the only product I’ve received so far that I would use. The packaging isn’t great but who uses a service like this for packaging? All around, for the price they charge I don’t think its worth it and I will be discontinuing my subscription.

This is an updated review as I previously did a review for this box. Unfortunately, it is not good news. I must have gotten 3 or 4 boxes soon after they first started up last year. I liked them, even though I found them to be too heavy on the skin care and too light on the makeup. I dropped them and didn’t really get any subscription boxes for many months. Then, I got hooked on Ipsy and started thinking about checking on other services to see how they were doing. When I found out SS was set to send out some great samples, I went to their website to see if I could still sign up for a July 2013 box. I could. The very next day I found out what was going to be in my box and it was HORRIBLE! I had no idea SS had moved to such a wide variety of boxes. In fact, when I looked on Youtube for reviews of the May 2013 box, they were all pretty much the same. But for July, whereas many people got a Vincent Longo eyeshadow trio and other products I would have loved, I got stuck with my 2 least favorite items to get in sample boxes–a self tanner and a shampoo (which almost certainly will contain sodium lauryl sulfate so I will NOT be able to use it). Even my makeup item is terrible compared to the others–a boring black eyeliner pencil. I honestly feel cheated. If I could just cancel and get my money back, I would. While I have not received the box yet (only the email to let me know it was sent and I could see the products I was getting on the SS website), I cancelled right away. I wish there was an option to return the box to sender without even opening it. Here is why I am so mad, honestly: I think they took my money and allowed me to sign up when they should have simply put me on a waitlist. I am guessing they ran out of products that were set to go out in the good kits. If they had waitlisted me, there is every chance I would have stayed on the waitlist and gotten a better box next month. I would have been sad to miss out on July’s box, but not angry. Additionally, their beauty profile is a joke and completely inadequate if they are going to start sending out such a wide variety of boxes. I am soooo not happy and I can no longer recommend this subscription service to anyone.

If I could delete (or at least revise) my last review, I would. After writing that review, I emailed customer service and they ended up taking action which turned me into a happy customer. I still cannot recommend the service (as the boxes themselves and the profile/box matching program needs lots of work). However, I did want to update my review simply to once again praise their outstanding customer service.

Boxes most of the time are duds for me. Lots of hair products for long hair for which I do not have. I received perfume also this month which was terrible. Also received blue nail polish. Guess that for is good for twenty or thirty year olds. Just can’t see a 57 year old wearing it, most of the time I will get one product worth it for me. Others go to sisters who have long hair and the nieces that wear blue or yellow polish that I have received.

When I found out about sub boxes, I signed up for a ton of them. Admittedly, this is the ONLY box that I am still subscribed to. They send out good sized samples of quality products, and the $15 off $50 coupon you get every month is a great deal (especially since you get free shipping!) They do mostly skincare products, but I’m okay with that. They have great customer service too, definitely a must have sub. !

You can see my review of the January Box at http://peachesinapod.blogspot.com/2014/01/january-sample-society-beauty-box-review.html
I am continuously pleased with my boxes. They usually do a nice job with variety, meaning I don’t get a lot of the same brad over and over again. I also like the size of the samples. You can count on getting a full size item at least every other month. The Sample Society is also good at including well known brands, as well as upstarts. I will continue with this brand because of the coupon that is offered, and the brands that I continue to get. Hope this helps!
